THE REQUIREMENT
For the refurbishment of existing classrooms at High School Dundee - a private school - Fermacell was specifically requested by the client. Facilities manager Brian Kyles has used Fermacell previously. “I wanted the same again because I knew it offered unrivalled impact resistance, excellent soundproofing and good fire resistance,” he says.
The contract had to be completed during the summer holidays, which meant that fast installation was essential – there would be no time for conventional wet trades.
THE SOLUTION
Contractor Torith Construction completed the refurbishment in time for the start of the autumn term, installing 1,500 sq m of 12.5mm Fermacell wallboard.
The 100mm Fermacell stud walls provide one hour’s fire protection with 42dB of acoustic separation. The exceptional impact resistance of Fermacell – more than twice that of plain plasterboard – ensures that future repairs will be minimal.
